Provincial Government

Camarines Sur as an ancient province adapted a truly important aspect in fostering a society. This move paved the way to the establishment of the provincial government. It was the primeval Camarinenses who had witnessed the birth of an administration evolving from an indigenous rule to the existence of a period of self-government, and eventually to the establishment of civil government. The legal discipline were imposed on families considered as the core units of the society; it was the respective heads of the family who were then looked up to for leadership. In context, no government really existed, or if any, it governed only in times of difficulty, danger and war. It was observed then that power was latent on the datus and the influential people. Elections were then tacit. During the Spanish era, a different scenario took place; a number of priests in the Diocese of Caceres became the leaders of political independence.

Now, a modern style of governance predominates in this province. It unveils a government carved out of passion to serve, to extend and to share visions and dreams to the people. By the adeptness and efficiency of its leaders, these aspirations were in turn transformed into reality. After serving as the provincial governor for nine years, the indefatigable former governor Luis R. Villafuerte left the legacy of excellent and dedicated service to his son, the Honorable Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. This young and vibrant leader who took the reigns from his father will steer the province into promising innovative horizons for progress and development.
